Ser and estar both become "to be" in English, but estar aburrido means you are bored and ser aburrido means the thing is boring. The two are not interchangeable and the difference changes your meaning entirely.
Soy 25 años.Tengo 25 años.
Spanish uses tener, not ser, for age. Carried straight over from "I am 25", and one of the first fossilised errors learners pick up.
Me gusta los libros.Me gustan los libros.
Gustar agrees with the thing being liked, not the person doing the liking. The sentence structure is genuinely backwards from English, so it needs relearning rather than translating.
Ayer he ido al mercado.Ayer fui al mercado.
With a finished time marker like ayer, Latin American Spanish takes the preterite rather than the present perfect. Peninsular Spanish is more forgiving here, which is why learners get mixed signals.
Espero que vienes.Espero que vengas.
Expressions of hope, doubt and emotion trigger the subjunctive. Skipping it is understandable and immediately marks the sentence as learner Spanish.
- Is this Spanish corrector free?

- How is this different from a normal grammar checker?
- A grammar checker fixes the sentence. This explains why the sentence was wrong, in English, so the correction becomes something you can apply next time. It also gives you coaching on what you wrote and a score for grammar, verbs and vocabulary, which a checker does not do.
- Does it know the difference between ser and estar?
- Yes, and it explains which one your sentence needed and why, rather than silently swapping the verb. Ser and estar are the most common correction in learner Spanish, so the explanation matters more than the fix.
- Does it handle Latin American and European Spanish?
- Both. Corrections follow the variety you are writing in rather than forcing one standard, so vosotros forms are not rewritten into ustedes, and preterite usage is judged against the variety rather than against a single rule.
