Most grammar checkers hand you a corrected sentence and move on. That fixes the text and teaches you nothing, which is why the same mistake comes back a week later.
This one explains each correction in plain English, so you can see the rule behind it. Write a few sentences about your actual day rather than a test sentence. Real writing surfaces the mistakes you actually make.
These are the ones that survive years of study, because conversation partners understand you anyway and never correct them.
Ich habe gestern ins Kino gegangen.Ich bin gestern ins Kino gegangen.
Verbs of motion take sein in the perfect, not haben. English has only one auxiliary, so the choice has to be learned verb by verb.
Ich gehe zu die Schule.Ich gehe zur Schule.
Zu takes the dative, and zu + der contracts to zur. Case errors after prepositions are the most frequent correction in learner German.
Ich weiß, dass er kommt nicht.Ich weiß, dass er nicht kommt.
Subordinate clauses send the conjugated verb to the end. The rule is simple to state and genuinely hard to apply while composing a sentence in real time.
Das Mädchen ist schön. Sie ist meine Schwester.Das Mädchen ist schön. Es ist meine Schwester.
Mädchen is grammatically neuter regardless of the person it refers to, so the pronoun is es. Grammatical gender does not follow natural gender in German.
Ich freue mich auf dich zu sehen.Ich freue mich darauf, dich zu sehen.
When a prepositional verb takes a clause, German needs a da- compound to point forward to it. There is no English equivalent, so learners simply omit it.
- Is this German corrector free?
- Yes. You can correct a piece of German writing without creating an account or entering a card. If you want to keep your entries, track which mistakes you repeat, and write regularly, you can make a free account, which includes ten entries a month.
- How is this different from a normal grammar checker?
- A grammar checker fixes the sentence. This explains why the sentence was wrong, in English, so the correction becomes something you can apply next time. It also gives you coaching on what you wrote and a score for grammar, verbs and vocabulary, which a checker does not do.
- Does it catch case errors?
- Yes, and it names the case the sentence needed and what governed it, whether that is a preposition, a verb or the role the noun plays. Case is where most learner German goes wrong, so the explanation is the point rather than the corrected article.
- Does it check word order in subordinate clauses?
- Yes. Verb-final order after conjunctions like dass, weil and wenn is one of the rules learners know but cannot yet apply while writing, so corrections point out which conjunction triggered the order.
